Hello

My name is Ruth Goudy.
I am a professional garden writer and speaker. I have run a nursery and garden centre for twenty years with my husband and this inspires me to share the joy I feel when I am around nature and flowers. I am on social media and Youtube and would love you to follow me. I believe flowers are good for our wellbeing and the more people that are involved in the conversation about it the better!

As Chrsimas tree growers, this is our biggest weekend!
I LOVE IT ❤️
Everyone is excited and I get to meet all the children (and some happy grown ups) who tell me all about how they will be decorating their trees!
Please tag me in your tree photos!

I am lucky to be able to take my dogs for a walk each morning . . . Although I go at other times in the day too. Each time I go, I find that I immediately begin to relax and step away from the pressures and worries of the day.
Breathing in the refreshing air.
Lifting my face to the sky.
Noticing the leaves, clouds, flowers.
Hearing the birds.
There is so much to enjoy, whatever the season.
Do you feel the same?

This is where the fir cones end up! I love a clas This is where the fir cones end up!
I love a classic wreath. Lots of varieties of fir, some holly and those, all important fir cones!
It always feels like a real privilege to work with nature's gifts.
The fir we use is from off cuts from our Christmas tree field @kilnfarmnursery. We grow Nordmann, Norway Spruce and Blue Spruce. They give a lovely variety of colour and texture.🌲
The holly is not doing much for my hands! I also like to use variegated holly to lighten the colours. We grow this and Paul and my father-in-law collect some from around the farm.
The birds need the holly berries to survive the cold so that is why I like to use artificial berries so that we do not take too much.🐦‍⬛
You can also watch our live on @kilnfarmnursery from yesterday to have a tour of the polytunnel. 😊

It doesn't matter what age you are.
I have known many of these ladies from the Mothers Union all my life. They are very special. The oldest member is 90.
It is an absolute privilege to do a talk or workshop for them each year. I think I enjoy it even more than they do! The banter is hilarious! 😆

I do not know the variety of mushrooms, so if anyone knows, please do tell and comment below. If you know someone who might know, please share. I would love to find out.
Obviously, I put this fir cone back on the woodland floor. It just goes to show how interdependent nature is. It proves to me how we should only take what we need and we serves as a reminder to be grateful for all these natural, perfect gifts.
